Steven Spielberg und Jeffrey Katzenberg spenden jeweils 10 Millionen Dollar für das Museum of Motion Pictures der Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). In Anerkennung der finanziellen Unterstützung werden die zwei Haupt-Galerien im Eingangsbereich nach ihnen benannt: The Marilyn and Jeffrey Katzenberg Gallery and The Spielberg Family Gallery.
Die Eröffnung des Museums ist für das Jahr 2017 geplant, mit Ausstellungen zur Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft des Filmemachens. Das Museum wird von den Architekten Renzo Piano und Zoltan Pali entworfen – mit Ausmaßen von ca. 28.000 Quadratmeter – und wird neben dem Los Angeles County Museum of Art errichtet.
“Steven and Jeffrey share a passion for moviemaking and philanthropy,” sagt Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger, der die Stiftung zur Einrichtung des Museums leitet. “With these incredibly generous gifts, they are combining the two, moving us closer to our goal of building a museum to preserve the history of motion pictures and inspire the next generation of filmmakers.”
“I am so pleased to join with Jeffrey to help build this museum to celebrate, educate, and preserve the arts and sciences of motion pictures,” bemerkt Spielberg. “Having our family name on the lobby floor is a deeply personal way to say how much motion pictures and the Academy have meant to all our lives.”
