2014: Spielberg mit Lincoln Leadership Prize geehrt

Die Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation ehrt Steven Spielberg mit ihrem jährlich verliehenen Lincoln Leadership Prize.

Spielberg erhält die Auszeichnung am 19. März bei einem Dinner im Hilton Chicago. Sally Field, Darstellerin der Mary Todd Lincoln in Spielbergs Film Lincoln (2012) präsentiert den Preis.

Der Stiftungsvorsitzende Wayne W. Whalen begründet die Entscheidung für die Preisverleihung:

“We are pleased to present this year’s Lincoln Leadership Prize to Steven Spielberg, who brings socially relevant issues to the forefront of our minds through the medium of film. […] His long-time commitment to philanthropic endeavors exemplifies President Lincoln’s conscience and spirit, making him truly deserving of this award.”

Spielberg – dessen Film Lincoln für 12 Academy Awards nominiert wurde und in den Kategorien Best Actor (Daniel Day-Lewis) und Best Production Design gewann – gibt folgendes Statement ab:

“This is an extraordinary honor. […] For me, Lincoln’s unprecedented commitment to the cause of democracy is one of the most important examples of leadership our nation has ever seen. I am humbled to receive an award that embodies both his legacy and the profound contributions he made to this country.”

Der Lincoln Leadership Prize wird seit 2006 verliegen. Zu den vorherigen Preisträgern zählen Persönlichkeiten wie der ehemalige US-Präsident Bill Clinton, der ehemalige Präsident von Polen Lech Walesa, der südafrikanische Erzbischoff Desmond Tutu und Astronaut James A. Lovell Jr.
